Hello and welcome to GCP Behaviour, Wellbeing & Education
My name is Gabrielle & I am an GCP's Therapeutic Intervention Lead
I set up GCP in 2017 working with a small group of home educating families, supporting their access to learning
I am an interventionist, not a counsellor
WHAT'S MY EXPERIENCE?
Holding a Masters degree in Child & Adolescent Mental Wellbeing, an Education degree & diplomas relating to SEN, mental wellbeing in children & adolescents, as well as diplomas in related topics, I have worked & trained in pupil referral units, specialist settings & mainstream schools across the district.
This has given me in-depth knowledge & experience into the world of education, behaviour, interventions & complex need
WHAT TO EXPECT... A big smile!
During the first couple of sessions I create my 'jigsaw' by asking questions around environmental aspects that influence us.
For example, home, school, friendships, family, experiences. From this I then look at specific opportunities for development and collaboratively through talking, drawing, playing games & exploring ideas, we create strategies to support these areas.
WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR?
I am searching for what I call 'challenge points'
These are areas of need within our behaviours, such as anger, anxiety, avoidance, emotional control. Through exploring I will also look at cognitive pathways & functioning skills, seeing if there are specific areas that require attention. These may present as impairments with concentration, focus, memory, mindset, rigidity & more
WHY INTERVENTION?
I come from specialist education, working with complex need, special educational need & behaviour intervention, along with training & knowledge in counselling skills, child development, child psychological development, mental health conditions and specialising in neurodivergence & intervention strategies. I find ways to engage & build rapport. Sessions are therapeutic & nurturing & they provide structure, self understanding & environmental understanding so that the young person can see how to embrace behaviour change in a whole approach
CAN I HELP WITH HOME?
Yes, it is often important for us to work with families & carers to build community around our young people, you can join in sessions, we will provide as much feedback as possible & believe that we should work unanimously in your child's therapeutic journey
CAN I HELP WITH SCHOOL?
Yes, our experience & training in behaviour has given us a platform to understand how young people relate to their learning environments. We are up to date with DfES, Independent schools and Ofsted guidance & if there's something we don't know, we'll find out. We work with many local schools primary, secondary & specialist as well as any other outreach or professionals involved. We are all about a collaborative approach
WHAT DOES THE OFFER LOOK LIKE?
I offer individual sessions ages 10- 25, family or parent/carer sessions, intervention & training in schools & other education settings
CAMHS & OTHER
Offering a private & independent service, we can be valuable to the process of assessment, diagnosis and/or finding the right support. For some young people our intervention alone works, others come temporarily while on the waiting list for a CAMHS referral & some work with both GCP & CAMHS depending on the practitioners & offer. Some young people & their families come to us following diagnosis & discharge, asking what now? GCP provides wrap around support to & from other services, also offering supporting documentation for assessments & EHCP, offering advise, signposting & remaining adaptive wherever possible
WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?
I hold an Enhanced DBS
Advanced Safeguarding Qualification
We follow ethics & procedures to ensure a young person's safety at all times, including psychological safety
We engage in consistent training to ensure we are up to date with new policies & guidance
We are bound to child protection & safeguarding procedures including confidentiality where we feel a young person or someone else may be at risk
Please feel free to request a chat, (no fee).
Fill in our submission form on the contacts page & either myself or Sam will be in touch.
We are always incredibly busy but there is constant movement in the diary as the academic year changes. We work with children in and out of education & I span over a breadth of need
I really look forward to working with you
